32 years of experience in Government Service in various capacities in General Administration, Academic Administration Management of Industrial Establishments, Discharging regulatory functions and Quasi Judicial responsibilities.
Academic Administration

1983 – 86

Handled files relating to the Management of various Universities in Tamil Nadu in the Office of the Governor of the State (Chancellor of all Universities) in the capacity of Deputy Secretary to Governor between 1983 and 1986. During this period had exposure to the policy making issues relating to Educational matters at the State Level.

1989-1991

As Collector of Coimbatore District which was identified as one of the Technology Mission districts in the Country to introduce Total Literacy Programme as perceived by Sam Pitroda, adopted various techniques and methods in spreading the mass literacy programme throughout the district. During the 2 year tenure (1989 – 1991) in the district participated in several meetings, seminars, symposia etc., organized by the National Literacy Mission Authority at Delhi and elsewhere. As leader of the mission several methods were identified and implemented which received all round appreciation from the authorities.

1991-93

Managed, controlled and monitored the affairs of around 1500 schools including 200 schools in Tribal areas functioning under the control of the Department of Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu in the capacity of the Director of Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department. During this period the overall performance and the results of the students in High and Higher Secondary schools improved remarkably resulting in more enrolment of SC Students in the school and advancement in education.

1993-96

As Member Secretary Tamil Nadu Literacy Mission Authority and Director of Non Formal Education in charge of Mass Literacy programmes in the state as a whole had the opportunity to coordinate and monitor the literacy mission activities in the districts through the Collectors. Only during this period most of the Districts in the State prepared the Phase II proposals (Continuing Education) and presented the same to the National Literacy Mission Authority and obtained approval.
As Additional Secretary to Government in the Higher Education Department from 1993 to 1996 was completely in charge of matters related to Higher Education viz., Collegiate Education, Technical Education, University Administration, Sports and Youth Affairs and also represented the Government in all Universities as a Syndicate Member.

1996-1999

As Special Secretary to Chief Minister had exposure in handling all the Policy Matters relating to Primary Education, Collegiate Education, Technical Education and University Education. During this period several important Policy Issues relating to Establishment of Engineering Colleges, Single Window System of Admission for Engineering and Medical Colleges, Fee Fixation for Professional Colleges etc. were implemented.
2001 –
till date

As the Vice Chairman of Science City, an autonomous organization established by the Government of Tamil Nadu was in charge of organising various Science and Technology related programmes that would be useful to the society. Have been instrumental in designing and implementing the State Level Science Quiz Programme and organising it throughout the state for the benefit of the school students with the main objective of improving the scientific knowledge base of the students. For the upliftment of women instrumental in organizing several EDP programmes in areas like Biotechnology, Catering Technology and Printing Technology and has also been instrumental in organising several Popular Lectures delivered by eminent scientist from within the State and also from outside for the benefit of the students, researchers, faculty members and the General Public on topics of current importance such as Biotechnology, Health, Communication Technology, Information Technology, Water, Energy etc. With the motive of nurturing the talents of young school students and encouraging them to take up careers in science and technology the Children’s Science Academy was strengthened during this period by giving it more publicity. During this period the Science related theoretical projects received from across the state grew manifold for the Award of the Children’s Science Academy Award and also organized the “Science Camp” for the winners of the Children’s Science Academy Awards, which was marked by lectures delivered by eminent scientists and technologists and also arranged for the visit of these students to various Laboratories of importance in order to nurture the scientific background of young students.

Administration of Industrial Establishments
 

As Managing Director of Cooperative spinning mill in Melur from 1977 to 1979 implemented Expansion and Modernization programmes, exhibited many innovative techniques and increased the machine productivity, labour productivity which ultimately resulted in maximum profit. As Managing Director South India Cooperative Spinning Mills, Tirunelveli the biggest spinning mill in coop sector in South India implemented expansion programme and Modernisation programme simultaneously and also established Modern Dye Unit. The posting came under a very peculiar situation when the mill had been on a lock out for about 6 months due to the unreasonable demand of the labour unions to recruit their Kith and Kin which was not agreeable to the Government. Within two weeks the problem was solved and the mill was opened and work started in full swing

From 1981 to 1983 as Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Textile Corporation managed the affairs of 18 cooperative spinning mills. 4 sick mills were taken over by Tamil Nadu Textile Corporation, 10 power loom complex in the State. Had exposure and gained knowledge in the handlooms and textile sector in various activities like selection and approval of cotton spinning yarn, selling yarn, purchase yarn for Tamil Nadu Textile Corporation, power loom complexes, weaving clothes, dyeing, bleaching, printing and selling of fabrics procured by Tamil Nadu Textile Corporation power loom units. Also experienced in selection of machinery and spare parts and all kinds of equipments required for handloom and textile industry.

As Deputy Secretary in Charge of Major Industries he has represented the Government at the Board of Directors of various Public Sector Corporations like, TIDCO, TIIC, SIPCOT, TNPL, TPL, TN Sugar Corporation, Tuticorin Alcoholics Limited etc.
